The tageditor is the heart of soundbase, it provides you with an easy way to get access to freedb and others, it can renumber tracks, and renumber titles, and much more. All these functions are set in toolbar buttons.

The first two buttons are to save your TAGs, with the only difference that the blue button just saves the tag to file, and the yellow button forces a full rewrite and verification of the tags. Of course saving the second way takes a lot longer.

The basic steps for saving a tag would normally be to select an album or selection of songs, change the value in the TAG, and press enter or press the save button. All selected songs will then be updated with the changed value. Of course it is not possible to change the track or title value if multiple songs are selected. It wouldn't make sense.

The next two buttons are for retrieval of values. The first one lets you get values from the filename, the second one gets it from freedb. Please note that the template driven value retrieval from file is much more powerfull then most people would think. Some examples are mentioned in the forum, and have a look at the how to's to get a better understanding of how it works.

The next button allows for renumbering your tracks and titles. Normally you would only renumber the track, so give it a starting value and press Ok. But in some cases, like large audio books can require a renumbering of the title value, for instance chapter 1, 2, etc. You can achieve this also by given a value for text and add a template value, in our example this would be ""Chapter" TRACK" would automatically renumber the title values as such.

The next four buttons are presets, allways use uppercase for first word, always delete all unknown tags, and always delete all comments tags (I hate these....), and last but not least, mark an album as a VARIOUS ARTIST (ALBUM ARTIST) album. Pressing this last button will actually do two things, it will change the look of the tag editor, by showing also a box for the value of ALBUM ARTIST, and if enabled it will show the column with ARTIST value in the songs display. By pressing the button the default value for the ALBUM ARTIST tag is set to Various artist, but you can actually overwrite this by any of your own values.

The next two buttons are the copy (to device) and organize buttons. Both have a very simple function, the first is just to make a copy of songs to a different location, such as the removable drive of an MP3 player (sorry, we don't support iPod users...) and the last to organize your songs to a different location. See the help text on this subject as well as some of the how to's.
